Witches were normally women who often lived on the borders of forests and were expert healing and herblore and would commune with the spirits of nature. They had familiars which would often be cats.
This is the largest locket I make, it's made from textured sterling silver with a 9ct gold cat and a flower of ruby (this may change due to availability as these are becoming harder to get hold of, please contact me for info). The locket is hinged at the bottom and has a holder inside.
The size is 26 mm wide x 35 mm tall and 14 mm deep. There is a detachable 'spell' scroll charm and a moonstone teardrop bead. The heavy duty toggle and Belcher chain is handmade and has been oxidized (please contact me if you prefer bright silver)
This will be sent special deliver in our recycled gift box.
The Witches Cottage
You can use your locket for anything, special photos or a lady I know uses hers to keep lists of people she cares about. The inspiration behind them is a tale from long ago called the Tale of Taliesin. In this tale Cerriwden identifies her problem then seeks the answer in Dinas Afferon, the mountain town of druids and alchemists, surrounded by crystal pillars and guarded by eagles. When she has the ingredients for her potion she makes it in a silver forged cauldron where it incubates for a year and a day until its ready. This is how a wish locket works as a ‘silver cauldron’ for your solution to a problem in your life or a wish. A wishing kit of a poultice of magic herbs and a piece of parchment for your wish and Instructions are included with all lockets.
I use all traditional silversmithing techniques, hammers, blowtorches, all words and symbols are created with stamps. My work has a rustic style that screams ‘Handmade’, so there may be wonky bits, solder marks etc. I keep things as environmentally friendly as possible, I use an organic substitute in place of sulphuric acid, for etching I use ferric nitrate not nitric acid all images are hand drawn by me. All materials are ethically sourced, and I recycle all my scrap. I use Cookson’s precious metals for all my tools/metals an extremely well-respected bullion dealer, the 9ct gold I use is 100% recycled and silver is high percentage recycled.
Much of my work is oxidised, this has then been waxed several times to seal the patina.
